Judith Spitzer

Judith Spitzer is an award-winning journalist, columnist and features writer. She graduated from Metropolitan University, in Denver, Colo. with a B.A. in journalism and speech. She is the mother of two grown children and yia yia to one 12 year old grandson.

Spitzer has worked for several newspapers large and small including Denver’s Rocky Mountain News to The Daily World in Aberdeen, Wash.  Her job titles have included reporter, news editor, editor, photographer, online producer and many more.

Her awards include a Washington Newpaper Publisher’s Association award for best humor columnist and an award from Oregon Newspaper Publisher’s Association for Best Enterprise – a series of four articles on domestic violence.

Currently Spitzer freelances for among others, The Oregonian Newspaper. She is also a consultant for small business owners, a public speaker and owns her own business called JS Communications. JS Communications provides copywriting, Marketing and Public Relations for small business owners, workshops on DIY Media: Social & Otherwise, as well as consulting services on using media whether it’s traditional, social or  multi-media.

Spitzer also loves to shop … anywhere … tag sales, estate sales, boutiques — just about any kind of shopping. Shopping is her avocation. She has always wanted a job with shopping in the job description. In 2005 she reached that pinnacle by taking a position with OregonLive.com as a Shopping Writer and wrote her buttkus off until 2008, when she quit the position and started her own blog called Shopping Out Loud.

Her other talents include floral design, painting (houses not pictures), interior design, photography, sewing and crafting ala Martha Stewart and, of course, more shopping.

She has a passion for children, elegant home decor, the best deal in town and women’s issues. She has two grown children and one grandson.
